Problem

Although electronic medical records are becoming more pervasive, the format for accessing patient information electronically still lags behind. Medical professionals are often tied to desk-based workstations or must move large computer kiosks into patient rooms to interact with patient information.

Solution

As part of our research on mobile interaction patterns, we decided to prototype an application on the iPad. The primary goal of our prototype was to provide more seamless access to patient information in a medical environment. It includes the ability to look up a patient’s history, medicine dispensing schedule and interactive data visualizations for tracking medicine and symptoms over time.
